Adult Education

This program is designed for adult education practitioners who wish to acquire or improve their skills and knowledge. It is particularly appropriate for those who do not want to pursue a graduate degree but are interested in organizing, conducting, evaluating or administering programs in adult education. Typical students include trainers from business, industry and government, community and political activists, church and development workers, continuing educators, museum and art gallery workers, extension personnel, culture workers, teachers, health and other professionals interested in learning and education, broadcasters, consultants, researchers and citizens whose civic duties involve community organizing and helping adults learn.

Applicants should have at least two years of work experience in the field of adult education, broadly defined. Because adult education occurs in diverse business, community and numerous other settings, applicants for this program do not need to be qualified teachers.

Teachers are also welcome. As well, persons with relevant experience will be considered even if they do not have an undergraduate degree. Application forms are obtainable from:

NOTE:All core courses may be done by distance education.

Core courses:

 

Adult & Higher Education (ADHE) 327, 329, 330 and 412

12 credits

Elective courses:

 

In addition to the core courses students must take 18 credits of coursework chosen from the university calendar on-line (www.students.ubc.ca) which contains courses such as ADHE 328; CNPS 365, 433; CSED 400, 402, 420; EDST 314; EPSE 301, 401. In addition to these there are numerous other approved electives including courses that may be taken on-line
