Chinese Conceptions - lessons from Asia
Since 1984, I have been actively teaching and
conducting research in Asia. During that period I was confronted
with cultural and contextual factors that were not compatible
with North American ways of thinking about teaching, learning,
and knowledge. It forced to question some basic assumptions
and beliefs about the social role of teacher and the processes
of learning and teaching. A sample of work related to this
time and my exploration of cultural variations includes the
