The short description:
This course examines the relationships among educational policy, research, knowledge and power relations as they affect educational practice and outcomes. Participants will examine how educational policy works through various theoretical frames or traditions with the aim of showing how each tradition would construct and deconstruct educational policy. These include critical/materialist, feminist, poststructural and postcolonial frames, drawing on cultural studies both outside and within education. We use these frames to tease out what researchers mean when they say they use the authority of "policy" to make educational claims.
