Description of Research Activities:

My long term research agenda has been to formulate an account of the nature and justification of moral beliefs that would form one component of a defensible conceptual framework for educational programs that promote commitment to particular moral values. Such programs include initiatives in character, citizenship, environmental, holistic, multicultural, anti-racisist, and transformative education. My recent focus within this project is on east-west perspectives on the development of practical wisdom.

I am currently preparing a research proposal titled “What are we doing when we are doing Philosophy of Education?” The proposed research would analyse the range of scholarly activities pursued within the broad area of philosophy of education using my account of the search for wide reflective equilibrium as a unifying framework and then develop the implications for course and program design.
